Anxiety and depression are not new to our species. But they aren’t as old as you’d think. Hence, our inability to yet cope with these phenomena that turn life as if a walk through an ocean of molasses. For life and mindset coach Steve Barton, one way to understand them is to know that they go hand in hand. And more importantly, they can be overcome. In this article, he digs deeper into his philosophy.

Steve Barton has been interested in the way human nature functions for as long as he can remember. Anxiety and depression stood out as subjects worthy of deep study because they emerge as symptoms of an impending collapse and thus can point directly at what might have caused it and what, therefore, can fix it.

Steve Barton says, “When we are at peace and content with ourselves, we are at peace and content with the world. However, when we lend the power we have within us, over to other people, places, and situations, we stand to get affected by our and their decisions, which may or may not come from a deep understanding of who we are as individuals. This lack of understanding and sense of powerlessness can cause deep anxiety and depression. It’s like constantly wondering if you let the gas stove off when you left the house, despite knowing that you did. Anxiety stems from our lack of awareness in ourselves and in fear of being misunderstood and not enough. However, all is not lost. There’s a cure for anxiety, a genuine cure — it’s about reclaiming your innate power. It’s about remembering that you can take back what is yours. And that’s where most people struggle the most. They know what they need to do but just don’t know how to do it. My response is simple — take one step at a time or all at once.”

Steve Barton’s practical and insightful advice can make people reclaim their power indeed.
